Healing the Sacral Chakra

Last Month I talked about Root Chakra work, and while I intended to only dedicate a month to that cause, It definitely took me longer than I planned. I have learned in that time that when doing personal healing, be it Chakra work, changing your diet, or whatever else, timetables are not necessary. Listening to yourself, to your body, that is necessary. Whether it takes 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years is not the point. The work you are doing, and the communication with your physical and internal self, that is the point. So, after forgiving myself for going over the planned 28 days of Root Chakra work, I found some genuine healing, some beautiful aha moments, and a path to the balance that I seek. Not to say my Root Chakra is in perfect alignment or anything yet, there is still work to be done, but I finally felt that shift I had been striving for and have begun to feel the powerful effect that a well-maintained Root Chakra can bring. The incorporation of healthy foods, grown from the earth played a HUGE part in this for me, as well as spending quality time with myself and my thoughts, sans judgment. Now I move onto the Sacral Chakra, which I imagine may be a touch more challenging for me, but with the groundwork I have begun to lay, I feel confident and look forward to the journey.

As I mentioned in my previous Root Chakra post, If you choose to join me in working on your Sacral Chakra, I highly recommend accompanying this information with your own research to see what works for and resonates best with you.

What is the Sacral Chakra?

Our Sacral Chakra is home to our Emotional Body, Sensuality, and Creativity. Located under the naval and above the pelvic floor this Chakra plays host to our desires, fantasies, intuition, relationships and all matters of emotions. Where the Root Chakra is all about survival instincts, the Sacral Chakra is all about pleasure.

The Sacral Chakra is represented by the color Orange and is associated with Water and the Moon. While our Root Chakra guided us to be more grounded, the Sacral Chakra wants to help you find the flow. Connecting with your desires, sensuality, and emotions in a way that can bring forth great pleasure without overindulging. This flow allows you to enjoy all aspects of life, both internal and external. Also known as the Svadhisthana, meaning “Your Own Place”, the work that comes with this Chakra is truly personal and sacred.

Balanced Vs Imbalanced

If your Sacral Chakra is in Balance it will feel something like floating along a lazy river. That laid back vacation energy that reminds you how much you love being alive. You will feel connected, nurtured, open to the world and in harmony with those around you.

If your Sacral Chakra is Imbalanced it may feel a little bit more like being thrown from your boat on a rapid river when theres a waterfall up ahead. Chaos, emotions, hopelessness, and fear. An Imbalanced Sacral Chakra may bring co-dependency in relationships, substance abuse, overindulgence, trust issues, sexually related guilt, uncontrollable emotions or even a complete lack of emotions. Depression, numbness or constant feelings of overwhelm may be common. Imbalance in the Sacral Chakra can be linked to a number of things within our personal life including lack of communication/issues within the Family or an important relationship, Negative experiences with a Religious organization and Physical, emotional or sexual trauma. Pin pointing where these blockages are coming up for you probably won’t be easy, but it will be the start of some true healing.

Finding the Flow within your daily life

The blockages of our Sacral Chakra can be rather heavy, and finding your flow will likely be a tough task. If you start by incorporating small changes into your daily life that help to stimulate and nurture this Chakra, you may find that the journey is easier than expected. You don’t have to start with the hard stuff. Keep it simple, focus on small victories and in time the big stuff will begin to fall into place. As your emotions balance out, those heavier conversations that may need to occur will become less daunting and more welcomed. When you see the healing happening, even on a small scale, it can motivate you to push through and make real progress in areas you never imagined. Here are a few ways to keep your Sacral Chakra activated and at the top of your mind, on the daily.

Water - The Sacral Chakra is directly associated with water, so it’s time to get wet. For starters, you should be drinking tons of water! Obviously our bodies need water, and honestly, if you are the type of person who is constantly dehydrated (raises hand), this could be a source of your Sacral Chakra imbalance. Our bodies need water to function, and the Sacral Chakra calls for it. Make sure you are getting your daily required amount of water in, and then some! Swimming, Dipping your toes in the ocean, Baths, Showers, these are also great ways to allow yourself to connect with water on a conscious level. When doing these things be sure to be mindful and acknowledge the experience and emotions of the moment. Breath into it and don’t forget to have fun!

Eating Sacral Chakra Foods - Think Tasty, Think Orange. Foods like, Oranges, Mangos, and Peaches are great foods for Sacral work. As I mentioned earlier, changing the foods that I was eating during my Root Chakra work really allowed me to open up and connect on a deeper level. Food and nutrients are so important to our bodies that we develop a deep connection to the foods we eat even when we aren’t aware. Adding Nourishing, from the earth foods, particularly orange foods, will allow you to deepen your chakra work with minimal effort or time.

Crystal Healing - The vibrations that Crystals and Stones carry are able to directly communicate with the body and the mind and can assist in the works that we do. Finding the right Crystal, placing an intention within in, and carrying it with you throughout the duration of you Chakra work can bring about great results. Some of my favorite Crystals for Sacral work are:

Citrine : Boosts Creativity and Energy

Carnelian : Boosts Creativity, Motivation, and Passion

Sunstone : Encourages Sensuality, Confidence, and Power

Moonstone : Calms the physical mind and offers a connection to the Moons energy

There are many other stones that are great for Sacral Chakra work, I encourage you to do the research and find the stone(s) that feels right for you and the work you are doing.

Aroma Therapy - The ability for a scent to trigger messages and memories within our subconscious is a magical thing really. It never ceases to amaze me when a spritz of a certain perfume sends me back 5 years to a time and a place I had forgotten. Aromatherapy is a powerful tool that you should be utilizing. Scents like Ylang Ylang, Orange and Bergamont hold a strong connection to our Sacral Chakra and our sensual, emotional being. Wearing one of these, or a blend of these scents as you go about your usual routine may inspire and motivate you to make choices that support the healing of your Chakra, again, with minimal effort or time.

Yoga - Incorporating a variety of Hip-Opening poses, such as the Reclining Goddess or Childs Pose, into your daily routine will help to open up that Sacral Chakra energy. Make sure to keep the pace slow and smooth, and don’t push yourself.

Creating a Ritual for Sacral Work

While the small daily shifts will undoubtedly lead to big results, sometimes you may want to dedicate a little more focused time and effort to your cause. Fully immersing yourself in your work can allow for deeper shifts and faster results. Much like with the Root Chakra, I will be dipping into a tub for my Sacral Work. All the more beneficial this time as the Sacral Chakra is connected with water, allowing yourself to submerge into a warm relaxing bath will make for the perfect vessel to begin your Chakra work. Bonus if you can time this with a full moon.

Prior to taking my ritual bath I will dry brush my entire body and massage my face with a crystal face roller. These simple steps will allow me to drain my lymphatic system (also connected to the Sacral Chakra) and improve my overall health. I will be pairing my soothing bath with The Crystal Cult Sacral Chakra Bath Bomb + the Kush Queen 25 mg Love CBD Bath Bomb and possibly some bright orange flowers if I am feeling inspired. The sounds of crashing waves will accompany the soft light of orange candles as I speak my mantra “I enjoy life to it’s fullest!”. I will then enjoy 20-30 minutes of focused meditation before completing my bath. Upon emerging I will enjoy a restorative smoothie made from Bananas, Peaches, Mangoes and coconut milk.

You can use my ritual for yourself, or create a ritual all your own. The beauty of this step is that it is truly about you and only you. Nobody else should matter when creating this space for yourself. This is about your healing, and seeing as the Sacral Chakra is all about pleasure, I hope you find a way to have fun doing it!

Checking in with yourself

After all of this work, it is likely that you will find yourself feeling lighter, more energized and hopefully more in flow with the world around you. Even so, it is important to continue checking in with yourself. Keeping the Chakra balanced is an ongoing task and will require regular communication with yourself, your loved ones and the world around you. Keep drinking that water, loving yourself and staying connected. We’ve got this!
