Kush Queen Joins #StopHateForProfit

Kush Queen is joining the #StopHateForProfit movement and will be pulling our ad budget from Facebook & Instagram.

“On June 17, a coalition consisting of Color Of Change, NAACP, ADL, Sleeping Giants, Free Press, and Common Sense Media called on Facebook’s advertisers to hit pause on ad spending on Facebook and Instagram for July 2020 to demand that Facebook address racism across their platforms via the Stop Hate for Profit campaign” from Afdhel Aziz in Forbes.

As the Color of Change website states: “From the monetization of hate speech to discrimination in their algorithms to the proliferation of voter suppression to the silencing of Black voices, Facebook has refused to take responsibility for hate, bias, and discrimination growing on their platforms. And what has allowed Facebook to continue racist practices is the $70B of revenue from corporations every year. Companies have a choice to make about whether they want their businesses featured on Facebook’s platforms side-by-side with racist attacks on Black people.”

Access Is Not Enough To Look The Other Way

As a cannabis company, gaining access to legitimate social platforms and their advertising has always been challenging. For Kush Queen, it’s truly been impactful for our business to be allowed on the platform. However, as a company, equality, decency, and democracy matter more.

In the time we have run ads on Instagram and Facebook which has primarily been in 2020, we have experienced constant hate, bias, violence, and ignorance. We have spent countless hours policing hate and maintaining a safe space in comments. Recently, the outward hate has increased. So much so, that we feel it is impossible for Facebook and Instagram to not know the severity of the situation. Moreover, we find it negligible that the giant social business would take no action while being at the helm of $70.7 B in annual ad revenue.

The Kush Queen Promise

This is why Kush Queen is joining the #StopHateForProfit movement. We will immediately suspend all Facebook advertisements until the company addresses how it will resolve these longstanding and egregious human rights issues.

We founded Kush Queen, not just because of our passion for cannabis, but to create a platform for change. Inclusion and equality are not just buzzwords; we seek real meaningful change in our world everyday. As a cannabis and CBD company we have an even greater responsibility to build a conscious business.

We all meet at a time in history where the very fiber of our world is at stake. What we could risk as a company is far greater than what we could possibly lose in revenue. When we made the Kush Queen Promise we meant it.
